THE HISTORY OF ACTIVISM IN LANARK COUNTY

Picture
Over the past few years LGBT Lanark County,
Calvin Neufeld, LGBT Lanark Civitan Club,
PFLAG Carleton Place
and today Queer Connection Lanark have all contributed enormously to the health of the LGBTQ2 community in Lanark County.

In Carleton Place community activists began to not only organize social events in the early 2000's but also met with local MP and Carleton Place Police Chief to advocate for change.

Calvin Neufeld, a trans activist provided and continues to provide an important support lifeline to the community.

LGBT Lanark County will be remembered for the  dances throughout Lanark County starting in 2010 and the
Enough Is Enough anti-bullying campaign of 2012.

PFLAG Carleton Place will be remembered for the work of Jim McGregor in creating a safe place for people and their families to find support in Lanark County.

LGBT Lanark Civitan Club will be remembered for hosting the first Pride parade in Lanark County in 2014
and today Queer Connection Lanark continues to create safe  spaces, build alliances and host pride celebrations.
